A fire protection system added to a security system allows notification to the local fire department during fire conditions. At a minimum, a heat detector (135o) should be considered in the mechanics room of a home, where heat sources are located. Smoke detection is also recommended in hallways both on the main level and downstairs. Photoelectric smoke detectors with built-in heat detection provide the best protection if correctly placed. A complete fire protection system would include additional heat detection in the kitchen, garage and attic.
